Friars, Dodgers Clinch, Cards Need 1 Win to Follow
The Padres/Dodgers now lead the West and the Central, mathematically eliminated the Phillies from the playoffs. The Cardinals have a game and a half advantage over the Astros with two games left. The Astros just have one game left and must win(while the Cardinals lose two in a row) in order make the playoffs(after a one game playoff with the Cards). The Cardinals send their slumping ace to the mound tonight to try and seal the deal. If I was the LaRussa, I'd send anyone but Carpenter to the mound tonight. All they need is one win out of two or an Astros loss and they clinch. So why not save Carpenter, hope one of those two things happens tonight, and then cruise into the playoffs with my ace starting game one, instead of my ace starting game three or four. If the Cardinals lose tonight and the Astros win, then they could send Carpenter to the mound. Dunno, just seems like simple logic to me... I guess they want to celebrate on a Sunday instead of a Monday... hopefully they'll lose out(which they are prone to doing over the last week) and the Astros will win tonight and send the Cardinals/Astros to a one game playoff.

Wow, is this unbelievable or what? LaRoche up in the bottom of the ninth and I know you guys were just dying waiting for that one to end. Gonna be a crazy final day!

Ya.. he already hurt us once in the series.. It would be nice if the Cards would just go ahead and lose the next two(and the 'Stros win). I'd like to see the Astros/Cards play the playoff game. That would be a fun game despite the outcome.

if carp goes tonight,and the brew crew make him labor the whole game thru.forget about a game four in the playoffs make no mistake this is a sorry team. when the boys out west really turn it on look the **** this team is a joke the stros have a better shot go brewers and giants and force the cards to face roy on tuesday that would be more entertaining than a three game sweep of the cards inthe first round go stros
