Would You Rather...

This season has been... well lets just say full of heart breaking, gut wrenching defeats with a few(and far between) bright spots for me as an Astros fan.  I'm to the point where I don't really know how I feel about the rest of the season.  So my question is...

If you were in the situation I'm in right now, with my Astros 6 games out of the Wild Card lead, having been close to taking the Wild Card lead just last week... Would you rather your team keep going back and forth getting so close to taking the lead and then falling off the pace over and over and over again.. or would you rather them just lose the next 10-15 games and put you out of your misery?

give it up astro fans the team is going no where this year or as long as they hold on to that ***** tim purpura,i mean this guy is a freaking class act he feels like because of what happend last year,he had some kind of automatic button in his office or something.hello this is magor league baseball not the buffet line where you cross your fingers, and hope they have your favorites today.last years team was somewhat the work of hunsicker and purpura rode on the coattails i mean come on what has he done since nothing that's what, and i guess it was not preston's fault.i hope it has nothing to do with the color of his skin i mean everybody else is thinking it so **** i'm going to write it .if brad lidge was black would he be allowed to blow game after game mid into august or what if bagwell was the one who banged his wifes head on a car (ala )julio lugo would ownership have such a quick trigger finger? i hope not,i love the game, and the team ,and this city which speaking of .this is no place for that kind of garbage. hugo

Whoa, a little hostile there aye Hugo? I don't think Tim Purpura can be totally to blame for this.. I mean almost this exact team made it to the World Series last year... Yea this is still Hunsicker's team and Purpura has yet to do much.. but bringing in Huff and Wilson were both good moves.

It's not Purpura's fault that the best bull pen in the league last season has been terrible this year.. it's not his fault that the unhittable Lidge is the worst reliever on the team this season.

About the whole race issue.. anyone who pulls the race card in the reason Wilson was let go is really grasping for straws. And like your mother used to say... If everyone else jumps off a bridge, are you going to do it as well? Race isn't an issue...

If Lidge was black he would have been allowed to blow game after game in August. He was allowed to do that because of what he's done in the past few seasons, not because he was white. I'm not real sure why you're even bringing Lugo into this.. he wasn't black, he was Dominican, just like Willy Taveras who has gotten multiple chances to play despite his lack of production at times in the season. The African American % in baseball is 9%(last I heard). If the % was 25% like it used to be when the Astros had Kevin Bass and Billy Hatcher, then you could possibly have an argument since the Astros have no African American players on the roster right now.. but 9%.. Give me a break. The reason Wilson isn't on the team has nothing to do with his race.. he's not on the team because Luke Scott has been hitting over 400 since he was brought up and has a good on base average and good slugging %.. They tried to send Lane down first, but he didn't clear waivers, and Lane is planned to still be on the team next season where the Astros basically signed Wilson to a one year contract.

Thanks for posting Hugo

You wanna know the reason why Preston Wilson is not an astro? Check his stats he's 39th in the Majors w/ 95 strike outs. Of the 38 people ahead of him only 2 have fewer walks (Craig Monroe and Jeff Francour) none have fewer home runs, and only 6 have fewer RBI's and only 4 have a worse OBP. The stro's picked him up for run production. He wasn't getting on base and he wasn't having productive at bats and he definatly wasn't hitting home runs. He had a great season last year and he was a class act whom I would tip my hat at for how he handled his departure, but not how he handled himself on the field. I for one applauded the Astros when they got rid of Lugo, he was basically an Adam Everett that beat his wife. No way you can blame Pupura for Ensberg, Lane, Lidge and pretty much everyone else on the team for not performing. Only people who have done their job consistently this season on the Astro's is Jose Cruz. I bet he can still play!

The 1st won. Make a run for it at least! The Astros diserve to say "Well we tried hard but we just couldn't make it." Don't give up, play hard!

well first of all the lugo thing was just an example, and yes i know he is not black netheir am i by the way ,but i am fair ,and i try to see it from all angles and yes every time i looked up pres.was leaving people on third with one out and grounding out into dp's but **** so is everybody else maybe next time they spend some money in the offseason and get a big name guy something like when they got kent.that in my opinion was (besides the 86 team)the best team to go and win the ring not the team that went brain dead last year, and i know they were not run over but who cares they could not even win one game.the bandwagon fans booded astacio when he gave up the one run to blum if they had half a brain they would have let biggio have it when he could not bring home the winning run from third with one out sound familiar? i mean come on this is the freaking world series not a pre season game even if the stros got red hot and won every single game from here on out considering they win the one they are playing while i write right now ,if that happens then what, the same **** that hurts them now resurfaces.it's kind of like that 18 inning game if they are going to loose do it now and don't string us along

The problem with this off season, was that there wasn't a Jeff Kent like player to sign.. the Astros tried to sign Nomar in the off season and get him to play in the outfield, but he signed with the Dodgers so he could play first base.

If Wilson would have put up numbers like he did the seasons before, like he did in Washington which is a more of a pitchers ball park than Minute Maid park, the Wilson pick up would have made Purpura look great.. People probably wouldn't question him then.. You can't predict what a player will do, only go off of what they've done in the past.. you can't blame a GM for that(within reason). It was a 4 million dollar, low risk move which didn't work out.. Tough luck

The Astros planned this season to be a top notch pitching, tough, gritty low scoring ball team that would beat you 2-1 more than beating you 7-6. It just so happens the pitching hasn't produced this season.
