Preston Wilson no longer an Astro?
I'm shocked as well! But that could truly be the case. In order to make room for Jason Hirsh to make his start today, the Astros had to option someone back to triple A. They tried to option Jason Lane back, but he failed to clear waivers which means the Astros had to either trade him or pull him back to the majors for the rest of the season. Obviously they didn't trade him. So what does this mean for Wilson and Lane? Well the Astros have a couple options for Wilson. They have 10 days to trade him, reassign him to the minors(in which case Wilson has to accept it due to being a veteran with 7+ seasons in the majors) or release him. There's a snowball's chance in **** that Wilson is going to accept being demoted to the minors which means the Astros will have to trade or release him. Hopefully they can trade him, but more than likely he'll probably be released which would officially end his stint with the Astros and make him a free agent. From what I've read, Wilson took the news well... I'm sure he's not the happiest person in the world now... but I have no doubt he'll be on another club almost immediately after he's released.
This is kind of good news for Jason. The bad news is that he's basically going to be a spot starter and pinch hitter for the rest of the season. The good news is... he won't have to worry about being sent back to the minors this season. Since another club claimed him on waivers, and the Astros brought him back to the big club, there isn't an option to send him back down this season, so Jason Lane is going to be an Astro for the rest of the season. Hopefully the lack of stress about possibly being sent down will be good for Jason's head and get him to producing like we all know he can!

Good point about the job security being good for his head! When he came in to pinch-hit tonight, these guys behind us starting booing, and it totally pissed me off! I was ecstatic when he got the double, and I turned around and looked at those guys, and they were suddenly cheering for him! I hate fair-weather fans!!!

I heard part of an interview with Wilson where he did not sound too happy! He feels like the Astros were not fair to him. He said he chose to come here when he could have taken more money to play somewhere else, and then they drop him when there were other people who weren't doing any better (Lane, I assume?) I do feel bad for him, and I hope he finds another team he can do well with!

Me and Tim yesterday were commenting about the fans, how with a 1-1 tie game, the Padres with a runner on 3rd, hit a long fly ball to center.. when Willy caught it everyone started cheering like we just hit a home run, even though the fly scored a run and put us behind. Pay attention people!
If I was Wilson, I'd be pissed to! But such is life and I can't really fault the Astros for it. Lane is a heck of a lot cheaper than Wilson, and Wilson wasn't going to be here next season anyways. The Astros had high expectations for Wilson and he just didn't come through(home runs)
