Not a Fill In Anymore..

Chris Burke and Mike Lamb are making the best of their limited playing time so far this year...  making it really hard for Phil Garner to sit them on the bench.  Burke so far this year is batting .312 after going 4 for 4 tonight with a walk tied an Astros club record by scoring 5 runs!  Yes that's 5 runs in a 9 inning game.  Let's just call this an offensive perfect game.  Should we give him grief for not hitting for the cycle?  Lamb is sitting at a mean .355 batting average after 110 at bats...  if only he had some more plate appearances...  The thing that hurts Lamb the most is that he basically only plays first and third base, but the Astros have Berkman (who due to knee problems probably should play exclusively at first base) and Ensberg.  Garner needs to keep Lamb in the lineup as much as possible and has been doing so plugging Lance into the outfield on occasion.

Tonight's game was great, the Astros stroked the Cubs for 9 runs with Preston Wilson(3-5 on the night) and Lance Berkman (2-4 with a walk) both driving in 3 runs each.  On the night the Cubs unveiled their new bullpen cell phones, the Cubs tested them to their full extent after relieving Sean Marshall after 5 runs through 4 innings.  Am I the only person that finds it odd that one of the oldest fields in baseball has the most technologically advanced bullpen phones?  Technologically... that's 96 points in scrabble.

Other Notes:

  • Ensberg sat out again tonight with the bad wing.  He probably won't play tomorrow and is still listed as day-to-day.
  • Roy-O starts tomorrow against the cubs at 7:05 pm against Greg Maddux.

Thomas,

I was getting the Cubs broadcast, and they spent an entire inning going on and on about the new phones. I felt like I was watching a commercial for Motorola...

How about Chris Burke? Jeez. I gave him the Mighty Mouse award for the evening in my post. I think Lamb is going to be getting semi-regular playing time at first base--conjecture on my discussion board tonight was that Garner may platoon Lane and Lamb in the 3-hole in the lineup...Lane is heating up, too, methinks. Mehopes.

Good night, Thomas!

I was watching the Cubs broadcast as well (nothing's perfect); but if you remember that long infomercial for Motorola, you'll recall the Cubs official saying "I hope we don't have to use those phones and the Astros use them quite often until the battery dies". Then the Astros started hitting to a point in which he said "I'm out of here, I did enough damage already".

Priceless.

Yeah, that was classic. If I recall correctly, right after he said it, Sean Marshall imploded and the Cubs' pitching coach picked up the phone...the Motorola phone :)

I was getting the JD and Brownie broadcast after the 6th inning when our lights came back on.. Stupid scattered thunderstorms my butt.. Looked like Katrina hit Humble yesterday..
