Astros lose to Royals.. yes the Royals
I've been thinking for a while that the Astros seem to bring out the best in the opposing teams pitchers. Take Scott Elarton for example; before yesterdays game, he had a 1-8 record with a 5+ ERA. After 5 innings the Astros (who have averaged 7 runs per game over the last few games) were hit-less. A week or so ago, Carlos Zambrano takes a no-hitter into the 8th inning against the Astros. On the 7th of this month, the Cubs pitcher Sean Marshall goes 7 innings giving up 4 hits and a single run. Last month Matt Morris (who is having a down year) went 8 innings against the Astros, giving up 3 hits and a run lowering his ERA to 5.43. The next week, Michael O'Conner for the Nationals went 7 innings giving up a run.. he's now 3-4. Okay, I'll stop there... I'm not sure if it's just the luck of the Astros, that any pitcher can come in and pitch the game of his life against us... or if it's just due to our poor hitting that we can make any pitcher look like he's having the game of his life.
The Astros did nothing against Elarton until the 6th yesterday where we finally scored 2 runs and had a rally going with runners on 1st and 2nd down 4-2 with one out. Mike Lamb gets picked off at first base by the Royals catcher (ex Astros farm-hand) John Buck. Rally over. The Astros would get nothing else from the Royals... the now 18-48 Royals. The Astros play the rubber game of the series tonight at 6:05 pm against the Royals and then end the series on Sunday at 1:05 pm.
